Harrison Carter - Island Sports Achievement Awards

Harrison was initially nominated for the 2025 Island Sports Achievement Awards by Ryde School for his commitments and engagement in sailing over the past year. He then went on to be selected by the Island Sports Awards panel to be the youngest single finalist in Awards Presentation. Harrison began his sailing journey aged 7 at Brading Haven Yacht Club. However, it wasn't until August 2024 when he was just 9 that he began Tera Racing. Over the past four months, Harrison has begun to excel in this sport, regularly placing 2nd, 3rd or 4th in large fleets both across the island and nationally.

Duncan Bates - Chief Instructor & Principal BHYC

Harrison has been learning to sail at Brading Haven Yacht Club for the last two years and I have been lucky enough to coach him. Harrison is a fast learner and has become a regular racer competitor on the water, demonstrating all the characteristics that make him a great sportsman. Despite his size, weight and only starting to race on his 9th birthday in August, he handles his Tera dinghy in heavy airs with the resilience and determination of a much older competitor. He has a great approach to team work and is always willing to help others when rigging or launching/ recovering their boats. His performance on the water and tenacity has inspired others at the club to volunteer to help run coaching sessions. Harrison is undoubtedly a future talent in the sport of sailing and a real credit to the Brading Haven YC and the sport.
